Arahuka Project Phase 2
Arahuka means Awakening or coming out from a slumber. It was taken from the scripture in the book of Isaiah that says Awake ye who sleepeth and Christ will shine on you. Arahuka Bookshop was started in 1969 to sell Christian Literature to Churches and all people especially the Bible. Since then, it operated as a single shop for books but later grew into a big bookshop supplying books to schools and other institutions of learning. Around the year 2006, the then Bishop Isaac Ng’ang’a, came up with an idea of developing the plot where the bookshop stood from a single shop into a storey building with offices to let. The idea was taken up by the whole Diocese and fundraising started in the year 2007. It was decided that every year, each Parish would give 50,000 towards the Arahuka project. This went on until Arahuka phase one was done to completion. Then Arahuka phase two started and is ongoing even now. The two buildings are a source of great wealth for the church for years to come. Arahuka Bookshop continues to stock and sell very rich Christian books chief among them being the Holy Bible in different versions and editions. The building has offices to let and is strategically set right at the center of Muranga town. Arahuka phase two is developing into offices and houses to let once complete. It is imperative to note that the theme of Awakening is still relevant today as it was in 1969.
