Kahuhia  Girls High School is in Murang’a county. Its history begins with the coming of the Church  Missionary Society(C.M.S) in 1906 who came and started a mission center around Kahuhia. After settling on this compound, they set up a co-educational elementary school with boarding facilities for both boys and girls . They also setup a dispensary to serve the surrounding Community. The name Kahuhia came about after a sick girl who was almost at the point of death, sneezed and people said ‘ni kahuuhia…’ meaning the girl has sneezed. From then on, the name of the place came to be known as Kahuhia and a model Girls school came into being possibly to honor the girl who had sneezed/breathed at that place.

In 1923, a Teacher Training School or the Normal school was introduced. It trained P3 teachers. In 1940, a practicing school was introduced. In 1959, all the educational institutions existing in this compound were emerged to form the present day kahuhia Girls High School. The Teachers Training Colege was relocated elsewhere in 1961.

The school started as a single stream with 35 students. Before long, it became double- streamed with a population of 280 since there were extra classrooms. In 1969, the A-level stream was introduced. In 1975, the local community pressed for a Harambe [parent-sponsored] class to cater for their daughters. In 1978, a third government stream was introduced to make it a four-streamed school. In 2015, the fifth stream was introduced, with a sixth one in 2019.

The current student population stands at 1300 with 40 TSC teachers and 47 Non- teaching staff.

The school’s physical infrastructure was inherited from the elementary school and the teacher training college. Over the years, parents and other stakeholders have improved infrastructure by constructing modern library, classes, computer laboratories, a bakery and HOD Offices. Other facilities include but are not limited to; dining hall, dormitories, school chapel, purchase of 2 school buses etc.

Currently, the school offers the ministry of education curriculum which includes the following subjects; English, Kiswahili, mathematics, geography, history and government, Christian religious Education, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business studies, Home science, agriculture, art and design, computer studies, physical education and life skills.
