Diocese of Mt.Kenya Central

The Anglican Diocese of Mt. Kenya Central is located in the former Central Province in what is today Murang’a County. It covers the four Sub Counties of Kiharu, Kahuro, Kangema and Mathioya. It is made up of 15 Archdeconaries, 35 Deanaries,114 Parishes and 255 Local Churches. The Diocese has close to 70,000 Anglican Communicants. The oldest Church in the Diocese is A.c.k Immanuel Church Withaga that was founded in 1903 by the missionaries. The Diocese sponsers most of the educational institutions in that area where 120 Primary schools and 88 Secondary schools are sponsored by the Diocese. Equally,a number of tertiary institutions are also sponsored by the Diocese among them Michuki Technical. The Diocese is under the able leadership of the Diocesan Bishop the Rt. Rev. Dr. Timothy Gichere. It has 140 members of the Clergy,100 Evangelists and over 300 Lay leaders across the Diocese. The Diocesan head office of the Bishop has members of the staff numbering 30. The Diocese beside sponsoring many schools, directly own and run two private schools and one Bible and Technical College. Besides this the Diocese own and run four farms where dairy farming is done at a very high level.
